Call for papers, « Crisis and Resolution : Imagination and the Transformation of Psychiatric Care »
janvier 26th, 2010European Association of Social Anthropologists 2010, Maynooth, Irelande - 24-27 août 2010
This workshop calls for reflection on the impact of crisis rhetoric on psychiatry’s transformations with regard to specific social, political and legal circumstances, and the role of imagination in informing the practices of caring and curing for the mentally ill. We aim to confront and compare various configurations of care, including when formal or professional biomedical-oriented care is lacking. Papers could explore how the appropriate forms of care of the mentally ill reflect specific cultural expectations and ideologies, and how the role of family, community, profession and the state is negotiated in different contexts.
Papers could also address the ways in which anthropological research has been involved in, and is still challenged by these transformations. A longer abstract and submission details can be found at.
The workshops are open for submission until 1st March 2010
